LIST: Parish-by-parish breakdown of school, city offices closures due to winter storm

BATON ROUGE — Following Tuesday’s historic winter weather event, several schools and state offices will remain closed through Thursday as officials continue work clearing roads across the state. Below is a summary of closures and changes by parish.

State offices

• All state offices will be OPEN on Friday, January 24th.

Ascension Parish

Employee Updates: Parish employees will receive updates via the Everbridge Emergency Alert System and should maintain contact with supervisors for work instructions.

Emergency Declaration: Parish President Clint Cointment has declared a state of emergency ahead of the expected weather.

Parish Government: Offices will be closed through Friday, January 24th. Regular hours will resume on Monday.

Public Schools: All schools are closed on Friday, January 24th.

Christian Schools: Ascension Christian Schools will remain closed Friday, January 24th.

Assumption Parish

Public Schools: All schools and district offices will be closed and reopen on Monday, January 27th.

“The severe cold has caused issues in our buildings, including frozen pipes and heating system malfunctions, which our maintenance crews cannot fully address until conditions improve.

While temperatures may briefly rise above freezing on Thursday, they will drop again late Thursday night and into Friday, adding stress to our facilities. By remaining closed on Thursday and Friday, we can focus on repairs over the weekend, ensuring a safer return to school.”

East Baton Rouge Parish

• Closures: City-parish offices will remain closed on Friday, reopening on Monday, January 27th.
• All public schools will be closed on Friday, January 24th.
• LSU: Baton Rouge campus will reopen on Friday. The University Laboratory School and the Early Childhood Education Laboratory Preschool will remain closed.
• Southern University: Baton Rouge campuses will be closed and operate remotely, with classes and offices held online. This includes Southern University and A&M College, Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center, and Southern University Law Center. 
• Baton Rouge Community College: BRCC will continue remote instruction and operations on Friday, January 24th.
  
• Emergency Declaration: Mayor-President Sid Edwards has issued an emergency disaster declaration to prepare for prolonged freezing temperatures. This allows the parish to activate emergency plans and secure additional resources.
• Central Police Department notice: “Please be advised, Central Thruway between Frenchtown Road and Choctaw is closed until further notice! Barricades will be in place blocking the roadway. If motorists violate this closure by moving or going around the Barricades entering this section of roadway, you will be Ticketed or Summoned. This section of roadway has become to dangerous for motorists to navigate. There will be zero warnings if you violate this order!”

Central

• Public Schools: All Central Community schools will remain closed on Friday, January 24th. Students will have virtual learning.
• St. Alphonsus Catholic School: School will be closed on Friday, January 24th with students learning remotely.

Zachary

• Public Schools: Schools remain closed on Friday, January 24th.

East Feliciana Parish

Public Schools: All schools will be closed on Friday.

Iberville Parish

• Parish Government: Offices are open as of Thursday, January 23rd at 10 AM.
• Public Schools: Schools and offices will be closed Friday and reopen on Monday, January 27th. A modified operations plan is available on the district website.

Livingston Parish

• Public Schools: Schools will remain closed for students on Friday, January 24th due to concerns for early morning student transportation. Employees will report to work at 9:00 a.m. on Friday.

Pointe Coupee Parish

• Public Schools: Schools and the district office will remain closed on Friday, January 24th.

St. Helena Parish

• Sheriff’s Office: The office will remain closed on Thursday.
• Public Schools: All schools will be closed Friday and reopen on Monday, January 27th.

Tangipahoa Parish

• Parish Government: Government offices will be open on Friday.
• Public Schools: Schools will be closed on Friday, January 24th and reopen on Monday, January 27th.

West Baton Rouge Parish

• Public Schools: Schools and offices will stay closed on Friday, January 24. Classes will resume Monday.
• Holy Family School: Holy Family School will have remote learning on Friday, January 24.

West Feliciana Parish

• School Closures: West Feliciana Parish Schools will remain closed on Friday, January 24, due to icy road conditions.

Statement from West Feliciana Parish Schools: “While some progress has been made, travel remains unsafe in certain locations, and the safety of our students and staff is our top priority.

We appreciate your understanding, and we will return to school Monday.”
