Convicted sex offender arrested, charged with rape

A twice-convicted registered sex offender was arrested and charged after he allegedly raped a mentally handicapped person in May.

Assumption Parish Sheriff deputies arrested Tyrone S. Chevers, 54, of Napoleonville on first-degree aggravated rape charges from an incident that occurred May 25.

Deputies responded to the complaint in Labadieville in reference to a possible rape case.

Detectives conducted an investigation of the possible rape that allegedly occurred within 24 hours before the incident was reported.

The detectives recovered enough evidence consistent with the crime to arrest Chevers on July 20. He was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center.

He remains jailed with his bond set at $75,000.
