Corporal receives “Life Saving Award”

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office recognized Corporal Daniel Story who received the “Life Saving Award” while serving in the school security section.

Story provided life saving measures to save a 52-year-old man who fell unconscious at a local church. The corporal arrived at the scene and asked the people providing CPR if the church had an AED machine, but they told him the church did not have one.

He quickly left the church, went to the nearest fire station and got a AED machine as well as an oxygen tank.

Story rushed back to the church and gave the 52-year-old four rounds of shock from the AED, and he performed CPR. Thanks to his efforts, the man regained a pulse and was moved to a local hospital.

The Sheriff’s Office commended his actions by saying, “Corporal Story, your professionalism and dedication to duty are in keeping with the finest traditions of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.”

They say he acted swiftly and went beyond his duty to a life thus earning him the “Life Saving Award.”
