Covington city council member arrested, accused of insurance fraud

State Police arrested and charged a Covington city council member with insurance fraud.

On Aug. 25, Troopers arrested Peter Lewis, 44, on one count of insurance fraud following an investigation into a long-term disability insurance claim with Unum Life Insurance Company of America.

Authorities say Lewis provided false information about his employment to support his long-term disability claim. Lewis turned himself in and was transported to the St. Tammany Parish Jail.

LSP worked with the state department of insurance, local judicial offices, and the Louisiana Attorney General to make the arrest.

The Insurance Fraud Unit has field offices throughout the state where Troopers investigate various types of insurance fraud cases such as staged crashes, “jump-in” crashes, fraudulent injury claims, worker’s compensation fraud, forged medical records, and inflated property claims.
