COVINGTON — The Covington Police Department filed criminal charges against the administrators at E.E. Lyon Elementary school. Principal Lauryn Faciane and Assistant Principal Tanya Barth are both facing charges in connection to alleged failures to comply with Louisiana’s mandatory reporting law.
Faciane was held on $2,500 bond and Barth was on $5,000 bond. Both women posted their bond and were released on May 27.
The state statute requires that designated individuals, which includes school administrators, promptly report suspected abuse, neglect, and certain other incidents involving children to either law enforcement or the appropriate authorities.
Their charges come after an investigation by Covington Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, which included numerous interviews and a review of available evidence.
Covington Police shared that it will not be releasing any details regarding the incidents that led to the charges, in the interest of protecting the children involved. The case remains open and active.
