Crash causes car to go up in flames killing two

A fiery crash involving a single vehicle killed two people from Geismar.

It happened on Nov. 19, 2022 after 12:30 a.m.

Louisiana State Police Troopers responded to LA 16 at Vincent Road in Livingston Parish.

Jerome Johnson, 52, and Dillon Slaughter, 27, both of Geismar were killed in the crash.

The investigation so far shows that Johnson was driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla headed west on LA 16. For reasons still being investigated, the Corolla veered off the roadway, hit a telephone pole and went up in flames.

Johnson, who was not buckled at the time of the crash, died from his injuries on the scene.

Slaughter, who was buckled up and a rear passenger, was transported to a local hospital where he later died from to his injuries.

There was a third occupant in the front passenger seat whose identity is unknown at this time. It is also unknown whether this passenger was restrained at the time of the crash.

As part of the ongoing investigation, a toxicology sample was obtained from the driver and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
