Deadly boating wreck shuts down False River

False River in Pointe Coupee Parish is shut down until further notice.

It’s after a 20 foot vessel & a bass boat collided nearly head on last night around 10:30pm during a fishing tournament.

Wildlife & Fisheries reports one person has died, two others are injured and transported to a hospital. One person is still missing.

The body of the 20-foot vessel, Shea Mouton, of Fordoche, was recovered from False River following the incident. Search and rescue crews are still searching for the operator of the bass boat. It’s why the waterway was cleared of boaters as officials search for the missing person.

A passenger of the 20-foot vessel and a passenger of the bass boat were both ejected into the water and were picked up by a good samaritan. They were both treated for minor injuries.

It is unknown what caused the vessels to collide at this point. Mouton’s body was turned over to the Pointe Coupee Parish Coroner’s Office to determine an official cause of death.
