BATON ROUGE — Three people have died after a Friday morning crash.
The wreck happened around 9:45 a.m. on Sept. 29 in the 7300 block of Hooper Rd. That’s between Mickens and Foster roads in East Baton Rouge Parish.
State Police Troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash that ultimately killed Johnny Duncan, 76, Mary Fox, 67, and Jennifer Pate, 48, of Baton Rouge.
The investigation so far shows Duncan was driving a 2008 Dodge Ram pickup the wrong direction into oncoming traffic on Hooper Rd. Troopers say he was driving west in the eastbound lane. At the same time, Fox was driving east in a 1997 Chevrolet Silverado.
It’s unclear why Duncan continued driving in the wrong and hit the Silverado head-on before going off the road into the median.
The impact caused the Silverado to spin. That’s when troopers say a 1999 Dodge Ram hit the Silverado.
Duncan was not buckled at the time of the crash and died on the scene.
Despite being buckled, Fox and Pat also died at the scene. The rear passenger of the Silverado was buckled as well and transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries from the crash.
The driver of the 1999 Dodge Ram was not buckled and had minor injuries in the crash.
Routine toxicology samples were collected from all drivers and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
