MAY 31, 2022 UPDATE:
Officials have finished the autopsy on the body found last week in Pointe Coupee Parish, but given how badly decomposed it was, the coroner’s office was not able to determine the identity or cause of death. A DNA sample will now be sent off in an attempt to positively ID the body. The cause of death as of now remains undetermined.
The Pointe Coupee Sheriff‘s Office received a call around 7pm on Saturday, May 28, 2022 reporting a body in a ditch.
Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff Rene Thibodaux said someone walking along a desolate area of Hwy. 417 in Batchelor noticed a smell. When they followed the smell, they found a body in a ditch.
The body is badly decomposed according to Sheriff Thibodeaux and appears to be a female.
The body will go to the coroner’s office after the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab wraps up their investigation of the scene.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. Although many are saying it’s believed to be a missing woman from Mansura, given how badly decomposed the body is, the identity will likely not be released until after the autopsy.
The Louisiana State Police is the lead investigating agency on the case.
