DENHAM SPRINGS — South Range Blvd. in Denham Springs is back open after a truck hauling a helicopter got stuck under the overpass Friday morning.
Officials say the driver was headed westbound on I-12 around 8 a.m. Friday, when the driver exited the Denham Springs Exit (Exit 10, Range Blvd.) and attempted to make a left turn off the ramp. That’s when the overpass clipped the helicopter’s engine. One lane was closed for a few hours.
Law enforcement officials say the driver, who was from Florida, was cited for careless operation. He was permitted from Georgia to Lafayette and had a pilot car.

Denham Springs Fire Department Hazmat is on the scene, inspecting a yellow fluid leaking from the helicopter.

This oversized load hauling the helicopter did have an escort vehicle with an extension pole to be able to guide the driver.
