DENHAM SPRINGS — A shooting on Monday night after some young adults were handling a gun has left two people with injuries to their legs.
It was just after 8 p.m. on Monday, March 30 when Denham Springs Police responded to Fred Banks Dr. for an accidental shooting. That’s behind the shopping center with Airborne Extreme Adventure Park and Ollie’s in Denham Springs.
At the scene, DSPD says there were three people, two men aged 19 and 20, and a 17-year-old woman, who were all standing near each other. That’s when DSPD says the gun was “being handled by one of them, slipped and was fumbled. As a result, his finger inadvertently hit the trigger, causing the gun to discharge.”
One of the men was shot in both legs and the female was hit in one leg, per DSPD. Both victims had non-life threatening injuries and expected to make a full recovery.
DSPD said one of the men is charged with illegal use of a firearm. He has now been identified as Erskin Curtis Jr., 20, from Baton Rouge
