DENHAM SPRINGS — Louisiana Bureau of Investigation (LBI) agents arrested a Denham Springs couple, accusing them of government benefits fraud.
The LBI launched the investigation after a criminal referral from the Louisiana Department of Health, which alleged that Keith and Sheryl Duncan, who are both Medicaid recipients, had intentionally underreported their income and and inaccurately reported their marital status. As a result, the LBI says the Duncans defrauded the Medicaid program of more than $133,000.
Agents said the Duncans did this from November 1, 2021 through October 31, 2024. The LBI arrested Keith and Sheryl Duncan on July 30, and booked them in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
“Last week we arrested the ‘Medicaid Millionaire’ from Slidell, today we’ve arrested ‘Romeo and Juliet’ from Denham Springs, who kept their marriage a secret to defraud the hardworking taxpayers of Louisiana for over $130,000,” said Attorney General Liz Murrill. “We’re not stopping – these funds are for those in need. If you cheat the system, you will be arrested and prosecuted.”
Sheryl Duncan is facing one count of government benefits fraud and being held on a $5,000 bond. Keith Duncan is facing three counts of government benefits fraud, and his bond is set at $12,000.
