DENHAM SPRINGS — A janitor at an elementary school in Denham Springs was arrested on Tuesday on charges of molestation of a juvenile, according to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Livingston Parish School Officials contacted the LPSO Special Victims’ Unit (SVU) about an allegation of inappropriate behavior by a Seventh Ward Elementary School janitor involving a juvenile during school hours. According to Livingston Parish Public Schools (LPPS), the school’s administration started the investigation.
Through an investigation, detectives learned that the school’s janitor Christopher Abery, 38, of Denham Springs allegedly molested a juvenile at school and got a warrant for his arrest.
Abery was arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on May 13th.
Abery was an employee of LPPS district since August 2024. According to his employment records, LPPS says he met all hiring requirements, including the criminal background check, which is required by state law.
The school district says Abery is on administrative leave currently and that it will follow all policies and procedures for the situation.
