PRAIRIEVILLE —- A 23-year-old man from Denham Springs died in a crash that happened overnight on I-10 in Ascension Parish.
It was just after 2:30 a.m. on October 4 when Louisiana State Troopers responded to two-vehicle crash on I-10 eastbound near milepost 175 in Prairieville.
Jesse Diaz, 23, of Denham Springs, lost his life in the crash.
The preliminary investigation reveals that Diaz was driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra east on I-10 in the left lane. For reasons still under investigation, Diaz stopped in the left lane, got out of the vehicle and was standing nearby.
That’s when a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling east on I-10 in the left lane and hit the back of the Hyundai, and then hit Diaz.
Diaz died on the scene. The driver and passenger of the Equinox were not buckled and moderate injuries. Both were transported to a hospital.
Impairment is unknown at this time. Per standard procedure, toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis.
This crash remains under investigation.
