DENHAM SPRINGS — A 58-year-old Denham Springs man was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Sunday in Livingston Parish.
It was just after 4:00 p.m. on September 15, 2024 when Louisiana State Police troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on Hwy. 447 (Walker South) at Parkway Drive in Livingston Parish.
Michael McManus, 58, of Denham Springs, died in the crash. He was on his motorcycle at the time of the crash.
The investigation so far shows McManus was driving a 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on Hwy. 447 behind a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban. Troopers said when the driver of the Chevrolet approached Parkway Drive, it stopped with its left turn signal on, ready to make a left turn.
For reasons still under investigation, McManus did not stop in time and the Harley Davidson hit the back of the Chevrolet. As a result, McManus was ejected from his motorcycle and landed in the roadway, where he was hit by a 2017 Honda Accord.
McManus was not wearing a DOT-approved helmet and died on the scene. Impairment on his part is suspected, and a toxicology sample was taken and submitted for analysis.
The drivers of the Chevrolet and the Honda were properly buckled, per troopers and they were not injured. Impairment on their part is not suspected, and both drivers voluntarily submitted to a chemical breath test. This crash is still under investigation.
