DENHAM SPRINGS — A Denham Springs police officer was hit by a Ford pickup on Hwy. 190 while directing traffic near Summers St. The officer was there due to an unrelated vehicle fire, according to the Denham Springs Police Department.
The incident unfolded around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29th.
The driver of the truck accused of hitting the officer has been arrested.
Denham Springs Police have identified the man as Christopher Schmidt, 58, of Baton Rouge. He’s charged with DWI first offense, first-degree vehicular negligent injury, no license plate on trailer and obedience to police officers.
The officer is being treated for non-life threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
