DENHAM SPRINGS —- Interstate 12 eastbound was shut down Thursday evening after a deadly crash involving a pedestrian on the interstate.
It was around 7 p.m. when Denham Springs Police officers responded to I-12 eastbound near mile marker 10 (Denham Springs Range exit) for a crash involving a pedestrian.
Witnesses told officers that the pedestrian was walking on the inside shoulder of I-12 and attempted to cross the interstate at the time of the accident. An oncoming vehicle hit the pedestrian, who died on the scene.
At this time, the pedestrian has not been identified. Impairment is not believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
The investigation is still ongoing, and no further details are available at this time.
