Denham Springs officer shoots dog, owner cited

It was Nov. 13th when a Denham Springs Police Department officer shot a pit bull mix when he was leaving his home for work, according to DSPD.

The officer said the dog was snarling and running towards him from across the street. The officer discharged his duty weapon when the dog allegedly lunged at the him.

The dog then retreated to its owner’s home, Kadondra Ardoin, on Carolyn Ave.

The officer involved was not injured and an investigation into the matter was conducted. The dog was shot and expected to undergo surgery.

DSPD released that since the dog was not on a leash or contained by a fence before the incident, the owner is charged with a Denham Springs City Ordinance misdemeanor for violation of the “leash law” in city limits.

However, a concerned neighbor named Jonathan Laurie said, “The dog is a pit bull mix. I’ve never know the dog to be aggressive, and lots of people walk, run and ride bikes on Carolyn Ave daily. I personally have chickens that roam free and they have never been attacked by this dog.”

Ardoin transported the dog for medical attention and the last update is that it was awaiting surgery.
