Denham Springs teen killed in Livingston Parish crash

A Denham Springs teen was killed in crash in a Livingston Parish on Thursday afternoon.

Shortly after 3 p.m., Louisiana State Police investigated a two-vehicle crash on LA 16 near Simms Road that killed 18-year-old Jaxen Joseph Ray, a Southeastern Louisiana University student, a recent graduate of Live Oak High School and a former basketball player.

According to LSP, Ray was driving a Chevrolet Camaro over 100+ mph southbound on LA 16. While attempting to pass several vehicles in a curve, Ray crashed into a Ford F-250 pulling a trailer that was traveling northbound. Ray died at the scene.

The F-250 driver and a juvenile passenger sustained minor injuries.  Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Impairment is not suspected to be contributing factor in this crash. It’s unknown if Ray was wearing a seatbelt.

As part of the ongoing investigation, blood samples were collected from both drivers for analysis.
