LIVINGSTON PARISH —- A 19-year-old has died after State Police troopers say the Denham Springs man was trying to pass a truck in a no-passing zone on Walker South Rd.
Shortly after 5:15 p.m. on July 16 troopers responded to a crash between an F-250 and the driver of a Ford Mustang on Hwy. 447 near Dot Lee Dr.
Hunter Roe, 19, of Denham Springs, died in the crash, according to troopers.
The investigation so far show Roe was driving a 2008 Ford Mustang and headed north on Hwy. 447 behind a 2024 Ford F-150. At the same time, a 2017 Ford F-250 was coming south on Hwy. 447.
For unknown reasons, troopers say Roe attempted to pass the Ford F-150 in a designated no-passing zone, crossed into the southbound lane, and hit the Ford F-250 head-on.
Roe was rushed to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Troopers said the severity of the crash did not allow them to determine if Roe was buckled or not. The driver of the Ford F-250 was properly buckled and was uninjured.
Impairment is not suspected, troopers said, but routine toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis.
“Passing in designated no-passing zones significantly increases the risk of serious and fatal crashes by limiting visibility and reducing the time available to react to oncoming traffic. Louisiana State Police urges all motorists to obey roadway markings, remain patient, and only pass when it is legal and safe to do so,” State Police said.
