Troopers arrest St. Amant man in connection to deadly pedestrian hit & run

DENHAM SPRINGS — State Police troopers have made an arrest in the deadly hit and run in Denham Springs from Wednesday night.

Joseph J. Casselberry Jr., 69, of St. Amant, was arrested in connection to the hit-and-run crash that killed 30-year-old Deasha Doucet, of Denham Springs.

It was just before 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday night, July 10, when Louisiana State Police Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. It was on Walker South Rd. near Andrews Road in Livingston Parish.

Deasha Doucet, 30, of Denham Springs, died in the crash.

Troopers say their investigation found that Doucet was walking south on Walker South near the center of the southbound lane. At the same time, the driver of a pickup truck was heading south on Walker South in the southbound lane.

For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the pickup hit Doucet and continued driving south on Walker South, fleeing the scene. Since then, troopers identified Casselberry as the driver of a 2017 Chevrolet pickup that allegedly hit Doucet.

After the initial truck collision, Troopers say another vehicle, a 2021 Kia K5, hit Doucet. The driver of the Kia stopped to help the victim and report the crash.

Casselberry was arrested on July 11th and booked into Livingston Parish correctional center for hit and run driving resulting in death or perjury.
