Denham Springs woman dies after being hit by suspected drunk driver

A Denham Springs woman died after a pick-up truck hit her as she walked along I-10 in St. Martin Parish, according to state police.

Officials say the truck’s driver, 26-year-old Ben Latiolais of Arnaudville was arrested after a breath sample indicated intoxication.

Authorities say Ryelee A. Georgeson, 20, was identified as the victim.

In a statement, an LSP spokesperson said troopers responded to a stalled vehicle in the middle eastbound lane of I-10 west of Breaux Bridge around 2 a.m. on Oct. 25

Investigators said Latiolais’ 2019 Dodge Ram hit Georgeson and stopped on the inside shoulder. Georgeson was found on the opposite side of the eastbound lanes near the fog line.

After the accident, Georgeson was taken to a local hospital “in critical condition” before she died later that day. n the day.

Officials say Latiolais was restrained and not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
