Dennis Perkins expected to take a plea in lieu of trial

It’s been nearly four years since former Livingston Parish SWAT Commander Dennis Perkins and his now ex-wife Cynthia Perkins were arrested for horrific sex crimes against children.

Today, Dennis Perkins is expected in a Livingston Parish courtroom before Judge Erika Sledge where he’s expected to take a plea instead of going to trial.

It’s unclear right now what he will plea to and how long of a sentence he will receive.

After his 2019 arrest, Dennis Perkins was indicted on 78 counts as follows:

  • First-degree rape: 5 counts
  • Attempted first-degree rape: 1 count
  • Sexual battery of a child under age 13: 3 counts
  • Video voyeurism: 5 counts
  • Sexual abuse of an animal: 1 count
  • Mingling of harmful substances: 1 count
  • Obscenity: 1 count
  • Production of pornography involving juveniles: 61 counts

Unfiltered with Kiran will be in the courtroom and bring you the latest as it happens as well as a live press conference afterwards that will include Perkins’ attorney Jarrett Ambeau and prosecutors from the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office.

His ex-wife Cynthia, a Livingston Parish school teacher, pleaded guilty in Feb. 2022 to second-degree rape, production of pornography involving a juvenile under the age of 13 and mingling of harmful substances. She is serving a combined 41 years. A condition of her plea deal was that she agreed to be a witness for the Attorney General’s Office in the case against Dennis Perkins. The AG’s office did not initiate the offer but they did agree with the terms as did the juvenile victim in the case.
