Deodorant cleansers culprit of “suspicious smell” at Denham Springs post office

Three people were transported after a “chemical smell” at a Denham Springs Post Office early Monday morning.

Around 9:15am, officials were able to track down the “suspicious smell” to leaking cases of harsh chemicals from deodorant cleanser. It’s not toxic but the post office will remain shut down until 11am.

Officials say an employee started feeling nauseous Halloween morning. The post office employees were able to track down a potential package and rolled two carts out of the post office. That’s when the employees called Denham Springs Police officers.

The officers called the Denham Springs Fire Dept. for their expertise around 6:15am to the post office on Del Orleans Ave.

Currently, the post office remains closed as the hazmat team from the Louisiana State Police, DEQ and the postal inspector are all on scene investigating.

The post office will remain closed until further notice.
