East Feliciana Parish deputies have made an arrest in connection to a body that was found in a creek earlier this year. Kavarius D. Grinner has been arrested for the murder.
On June 9, 2021, deputies responded to a body found in the Little Redwood Creek on Hwy 19 near Hwy 963 in East Feliciana Parish.
It appears the body was dumped in the water with only boxer shorts on and a gunshot wound to the head.
East Feliciana Parish Coroner Dr. Ewell DeWitt Bickham identified the body as Billie Washington, 38, from Zachary.
Since Washington was from Zachary, Zachary PD and East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputies assisted in the investigation and identified Kavarius Grinner, 32, of Baton Rouge, as the suspect.
Officials had a warrant from Grinner’s arrest on Aug. 4th, but deputies had to call in the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force to find him.
On Aug. 12th, Grinner was found and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish jail as a fugitive and then transported to East Feliciana Parish.
He is now charged with the second-degree murder of Washington.
“I want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the community, LSP Crime Lab, Zachary PD, EBRSO and the U.S. Marshals Service for their assistance in helping us bring this homicide investigation to a successful conclusion,” said East Feliciana Parish Sheriff Jeff Travis. “This is another great example of what can be accomplished when we all work together.”
