Inmate who walked off job site arrested in Lafayette

ST. FRANCISVILLE — A 24-yr-old inmate from West Feliciana Parish who walked off his job site, was arrested in Lafayette, according to WF Sheriff Brian Spillman.

Priest Butler, 24, worked in the West Feliciana Transitional Work Program facility while serving three years of time. He was let out to dump the trash Sunday, April 30, around 3-3:30pm when Sheriff Spillman said he was caught on video getting into a pick-up truck and leaving the area.

At approximately 11:40pm Sunday, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office took Butler into custody at a home in Youngsville, La.

Butler was booked into the Lafayette Parish Detention Center as a fugitive from West Feliciana Parish. Butler will be returned to West Feliciana to face the charge of simple escape. His accomplice has been identified and charges are pending in that case.

Sheriff Brian Spillman said, “I’m thankful for the work of our investigators, and the assistance of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office in the apprehension of Butler.”

Butler was originally in for a charge of aggravated flight from an officer in Bossier Parish. He was scheduled to be released in July 2024.
