BATON ROUGE — An East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputy was fired Monday just before she was arrested in the alleged stabbing of her boyfriend, sheriff’s records show.
Each accused the other of trying to prevent them from leaving the apartment with their 2-month-old son and both separately called for emergency services, according to sheriff’s office records.
Faith Placide, 27, was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison with aggravated second-degree battery, aggravated battery and domestic abuse battery with child endangerment, according to jail records.
Deputies were called to Placide’s apartment in the 8300 block of Picardy Avenue about 1:30 a.m. Monday. They found her boyfriend in the parking lot, bleeding profusely from a one-inch stab wound to his upper left arm. A trail of blood led back to the door of the apartment where Placide and the victim live, an arrest affidavit said. They found more blood inside.
Placide and the baby left before deputies arrived. She had called law enforcement about the same time to report that her boyfriend would not let her leave the apartment, the affidavit said.
Boyfriend’s account of events, according to the arrest warrant
The couple had a brief argument on Sunday night around 7 p.m. Placide left the apartment for about 45 minutes. When she returned, they discussed child care, took showers and went to bed.
Placide wanted to have sex, but her boyfriend did not. He said Placide was drunk.
Placide allegedly grabbed a pair of scissors and held the point near his stomach while questioning him about his lack of interest in sex.
He told deputies he “forcefully removed the scissors” from her hand and put them away, the warrant said.
He then said he wanted to pack some things and leave with the baby. He was in bed holding the baby and trying to get him to sleep when Placide allegedly grabbed a black leather belt and starting hitting her boyfriend with it, which led to a “physical altercation,” the warrant states.
He said Placide then grabbed the baby from him. In a cell phone video “the accused is heard apologizing to the baby,” the warrant said.
He tried to leave the apartment, but Placide allegedly punched and kicked him while she was holding their son.
As they were circling the kitchen island, Placide allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed him in the arm. He ran out of the apartment and called 911.
Fired deputy’s account of events
Investigators spoke to Placide, who had returned to the apartment after they called her. She told them she had taken the baby to a relative’s house.
She didn’t recall what had led to the earlier argument. Her boyfriend told her he was going to take their son and leave the apartment, and she didn’t want him to take the baby. That’s when she called law enforcement to report that he was refusing to leave and blocking her from leaving. He approached her, and she explained that she “opened a kitchen drawer, grabbed a knife and stabbed the Victim in the upper left arm area,” the affidavit said.
After the stabbing, he ran out of the apartment and she left with the baby.
Placide, who was hired by the sheriff’s office in February 2024, was fired before her arrest, the sheriff’s office said. She had been on medical leave since March 16, but worked in Uniform Patrol before that.
The man’s stab wound required six stitches. The baby was not hurt. Investigators found a bloody kitchen knife with a white handle in Placide’s vehicle and a black leather belt and a pair of scissors in the apartment.
