HAMMOND — Nearly six months after a deadly crash in Tangipahoa Parish, a 26-year-old from Covington has been charged with the death of his passenger. The January 2026 crash killed a 30-year-old woman and left several people hurt. Deputies say the driver of that vehicle was allegedly impaired at the time of the crash.
Patrick Amos, 26, has been arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, first-degree vehicular negligent injuring, reckless operation of a vehicle, driving while intoxicated, driving under suspension and a child restraint violation.
TPSO deputies were notified of a crash involving one vehicle just after 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29 at the traffic circle on North Hoover Road and Sisters Road.
Deputies say a Toyota Camry was going south on North Hoover Rd. when the driver, now identified as Patrick Amos, entered the roundabout at Sisters Road. According to officials, the Camry was traveling at a high rate of speed and Amos lost control. The car traveled into the yard of a business, where it hit a tree.
The front seat passenger, Maricia Casnave, 30, of Lacombe, was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene. Four other people in the vehicle, including a juvenile, were all unrestrained and were hospitalized with various levels of injuries, per TPSO.
His bond has been set at $211,000.
