PORT ALLEN — A 17-year-old is behind bars on multiple counts of first-degree rape, accused of sexually abusing a 5-year-old child.
The alleged incidents took place inside a home in Port Allen. Specific details are being withheld to protect the victim.
UWK has learned Port Allen Police officers responded to a home overnight this week in response to the teenager in a bed with a 5-year-old girl.
The child did undergo a sexual assault exam, which is said to have confirmed the young girl had been raped.
The 17-year-old has been identified as Jeremy Johnson. He’s charged with four counts of first-degree rape. He is being charged as an adult, per the 2024 “Raise the Age” bill that Governor Jeff Landry signed into law. Prior to the law, a 17-year-old in Louisiana was considered a juvenile. It was reversed in 2024 making a 17-year-old an adult now.
District Attorney Tony Clayton: “You can stick a fork in him. He’s done.”
West Baton Rouge’s District Attorney for the 18th Judicial District said Johnson is not only facing charges as an adult, but if convicted and found guilty, he will be sentenced accordingly as an adult.
“A 17-year-old raping a 5-year-old, you can stick a fork in him. He’s done. That’s inexcusable and he’s old enough to know better and he should not be walking around society with normal people,” an upset Clayton told UWK.
“If convicted, he will not have a chance to do that to another child,” Clayton continued, adding he would receive a ‘harsh sentence.’ “I don’t know if I can castrate a 17-year-old but I will research it. If it’s on the table, it’s something that will be considered. That’s how horrible this is.”
No further details have been released at this time into the Port Allen rape.
