ASCENSION — Additional charges have been filed against a Donaldsonville mayoral candidate accused of stealing copper wire earlier this month, according to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Glenn Price, 68, allegedly purchased stolen copper wire in cash and sold it illegally to a recycling center in Baton Rouge without the required license and documentation, investigators said. In addition to illegal possession of stolen property, Price has now been charged with money laundering over $100,000 and illegal transmission of monetary funds.
Price was booked on October 31 and posted a $40,000 bond, according to jail records.
Ascension Parish detectives were contacted by the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office regarding an investigation into the theft and illegal sale of a telecommunication company’s copper wire stolen from utility poles in Livingston and East Feliciana Parishes.
Price is challenging incumbent Donaldsonville mayor Leroy Sullivan, Sr. and is listed on the ballot for the Nov. 5 election.
Investigators say 47-year-old Theodore Myers and 44-year-old Kyle Melancon, both of Prairieville, were identified as suspects and were alleged to have conducted several illegal transactions with Price.
Between Sept. 3 and Oct. 5, Price allegedly illegally profited more than $25,000 from the transactions, the sheriff stated.
Myers was arrested on fugitive charges and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
