Driver airlifted after crashing into church bus carrying youth group

CENTRAL — A church bus carrying a youth group was involved in a crash Sunday night. Thankfully, injuries for those on the bus were minor.

Central Police Chief Roger Corcoran says around 9 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14, a church bus was headed north on Joor Rd. Numerous kids were on the bus returning from a church event.

At the same time, a Nissan SUV was going south on Joor Rd. and crossed over the center line crashing into the bus. Speed and impairment are considered to be factors in the crash. In fact, a door from the SUV was stuck on the bus after the crash.

The wreck happened on Joor Rd. between Denham Rd. & Country Estates Ave.

The driver of the SUV was airlifted to a hospital. He was listed in severe condition. The youth group on the bus has some minor injuries.
