Driver crashes after stealing car & leading police on chase

Baton Rouge Police officers spotted a possible stolen vehicle at Plank & Sycamore around 4pm.

Instead of the driver stopping though, he allegedly took off leading officers on a chase into Central.

The vehicle is described as a red Mercedes with a California license plate. Police say it was stolen on May 22nd from the Harding Blvd. area in a carjacking.

The driver ended up crashing during the pursuit, flipping the vehicle at Joor Rd. near Lovett. The passenger was ejected out of the car before the car flipped and landed on top of her.

Multiple emergency crews stepped in to get the passenger out. Sources said she was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the stolen vehicle has been arrested. His name and charges have not been released just yet.

Joor Rd. northbound at Lovett is shut down until further notice as officials respond and clean up the scene.
