BATON ROUGE —- A 54-year-old man lost his life after traveling the wrong way on Interstate 110 while a second person is in a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
It was around 3:17 a.m. on July 5th when officers responded to the 700 block of South I-110 for a crash involving two vehicles.
The crash involved a 2004 Jaguar X-Type and a 2021 Dodge Ram.
Michael Young, 54, was the driver of the Jaguar and lost his life, Baton Rouge Police says.
The investigation so far reveals that Young was driving north in the southbound lanes of I-110 (traveling the wrong way), when he crashed head-on into the Dodge Ram, in the inside lane of travel.
Despite wearing a seatbelt, Young died at the scene. The driver of the Dodge Ram was identified as 32-year-old Darrell Batiste. He remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Detectives are awaiting toxicology results from both drivers.
