Two women caught on camera allegedly stealing from a baby boutique in Juban Crossing, were issued summons.
Shanettra Miles & Kyndal Simmons were caught on camera on Aug. 14th & Aug. 4th at Cassandi’s.
Both were issued summons for two counts each of shoplifting for allegedly stealing nearly $1,000 worth of merchandise. Livingston Parish Sheriff’s deputies issued summons to both women on Friday, Aug 19th.
“I’m highly upset because the message I get is if you’re a small business and people steal from you, they get a slap on the wrist but if you steal from a franchise store, you get booked,” said Rogers.
Owner of Cassandi’s Whitney Rogers said both women had strollers with babies in them. Rogers said the women pretended to tend to their babies when they were allegedly putting merchandise in their strollers.
Rogers is upset saying in the past, others accused of stealing from stores in Juban Crossing have been arrested. It’s why she doesn’t understand the summons for allegedly stealing from her boutique.
But summons can be issued when the merchandise is below $1,000 as it’s considered a misdemeanor theft. Anything over $1,000 is considered a felony, which requires an arrest.
