Early morning shooting leaves one dead in BR

A shooting that happened around 3am ended up taking the life of a 55-yr-old man.

Just before 3am Feb. 19, Baton Rouge Police officers responded to S. Choctaw Dr.  for a person shot in the chest in the VFW Hall parking lot.

Although the bullet was a through and through shot, Leslie Blackburn, 55, died around 6:30am at a hospital. 

Blackburn told officers he was walking in the area when he was shot adding that a vehicle drove up to him and someone shot at him before driving off. Blackburn added the person in the vehicle did not try to rob him.

Officers did not find any shell casings, a gun or any damage from a gun anywhere.
