Early morning shooting leaves one dead in BR

A shooting that happened around 3am ended up taking the life of a 55-yr-old man.

Just before 3am Feb. 19, Baton Rouge Police officers responded to S. Choctaw Dr.  for a person shot in the chest in the VFW Hall parking lot.

Although the bullet was a through and through shot, Leslie Blackburn, 55, died around 6:30am at a hospital.

Blackburn told officers he was walking in the area when he was shot adding that a vehicle drove up to him and someone shot at him before driving off. Blackburn added the person in the vehicle did not try to rob him.
