An East Feliciana Parish Grand Jury returned a true bill on Blade Hunt’s mother and her boyfriend for negligent homicide. The grand jury met on May 2, 2022 in East Feliciana Parish.

Rebekah Hunt, the boy’s mother, and her boyfriend Cameron Crump are both now indicted on one-count of negligent homicide. The duo turned themselves in on May 3, 2022. A bond has not been set for either yet.
It comes after 6-yr-old Blade Wayne Hunt was shot and killed.
The incident happened Saturday, March 5th just after 8:30pm in the Lakeshore neighborhood in East Feliciana Parish, specifically on West Lakeshore Dr.
Hunt & Crump had just returned home with two boys in the back of the truck. Hunt, 6, was asleep behind the driver seat with his 8-yr-old brother next to him. The preliminary investigation reveals when Crump got out of the truck and went to pull his seat up to get Blade out of the truck, the gun went off shooting Blade in the head.
The gun was a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 that was usually kept in the truck’s driver door pocket. Officials say as of now, it appears the gun fell out of the pocket between the seat and door and when Crump went to pull his seat up, somehow, the gun fired.
Crump is Blade’s mother’s boyfriend. The family rushed Blade to Lane Regional Hospital in Zachary. From there, Blade was transported to Children’s Hospital.
Blade’s family said his injuries were so severe that they were forced to pull him off of life support on Monday night.
“Blade was always a sweet but tough little boy. He had the cutest little country twang accent and was always with his big brother. Those two were inseparable,” said Blade’s aunt Heather Hunt.

“It’s heartbreaking. We are all in shock. You never think a child would be taken away from you,” said Blade’s grandfather Allen Hunt. “I have heard so many different stories about how it happened. I just want the truth about how it happened and I am confident that the investigation will get the truth for us.”
“It’s a very unfortunate situation. Our investigation so far appears this is an accidental shooting but the investigation is ongoing and we will forward our case to the district attorney for his review,” said East Feliciana Parish Sheriff Jeff Travis.
East Feliciana Parish District Attorney Sam D’Aquilla wanted to take the case to a grand jury to determine whether Crump & Hunt should face any charges.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we presented it to a grand jury to let them determine if there’s negligence or criminal culpability and they obviously found negligent homicide,” said D’Aquilla.
Blade will live on through his organs. Blade’s organs were all donated and his family said recipients are already awaiting his organs.
Rip sweet boy.
