East Feliciana head-on wreck kills 6-yr-old

The family of a 6-yr-old killed allegedly at the hands of a drunk driver has identified the little girl.

“Clara Floedia Carpenter was a vibrant and funny little girl. She loved Jesus, her family and friends. She thrived in her young little life. She was our little entertainer full of laughter and a little sass,” said Clara’s aunt Jami Fooshee.

Clara was in the vehicle with her parents Michael and Kristi Carpenter Friday, Nov. 25th around 10pm on Hwy. 10 in Jackson in East Feliciana Parish.

Officials say the Carpenter family was driving one way on Hwy. 10. At the same time, Kenneth King, 62, of Jackson, was headed the opposite direction.

For reasons still under investigation, King crossed the center line near the 2000 block of Hwy. 10 and hit the Carpenter’s vehicle head-on coming the opposite direction.

The parents were injured in the wreck and the 6-yr-old girl died.

King was also injured in the wreck. Once he is released from a hospital, he will be booked into the East Feliciana Parish jail.

He’s facing several charges: one count of vehicular homicide, two counts of negligent injury, one count each of reckless operation, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and open container.

Jackson Police Dept. is the lead investigating agency of the case. East Feliciana Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police are assisting in the investigation.
