BATON ROUGE —- The East Baton Rouge Public School System announced all classes will resume Tuesday.
Classes were canceled on Monday, Aug. 21st because of a school bus driver shortage. It came after 52% of all school bus drivers for the EBRPSS did not show up for their routes Friday, Aug. 18.
At least one bus driver told UWK it is too hot on their school buses without any AC. It created major backups as parents had to drop off their children and forced school officials to delay starting school by two hours.
It also led to an early dismissal of some schools to be able to work with the bus drivers they did have.
School officials said Monday that classes will resume with the same staggered schedule that was implemented last week. The altered schedule will be used until Sept. 5.
All secondary schools (high schools and middle schools) will dismiss at 1:35 pm, and all elementary schools will dismiss at the regular 3:35 time.
Officials say buses will operate routes in coordination with these adjusted schedules to and from school campuses.
