EBRSO deputy hit while working I-12 lane closure

An East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputy was sitting in his unit when an alleged drunk driver hit him from behind.

It happened around 10:45 pm on Friday on I-12 eastbound near Sherwood.

Arresting documents say Adrian Jones, 45, of Lake Charles crossed over the solid yellow line hitting the deputy’s unit. The unit had its lights on making himself visible.

After the deputy’s unit was hit, the deputy got out to check on Jones. That’s when documents say Jones allegedly exited his car & took a swing at the deputy to punch him.

When a deputy responded to the scene, he said he found Jones & the initial deputy lying on the Interstate shoulder. The deputy was in and out of consciousness.

The responding deputy said he saw several vodka bottles in plain view in Jones’ car. One of the bottles had been opened and there was vodka on the floor board. Another bottle was empty and another hadn’t been opened. The deputy also said a small bag of white powder substance was found in the vehicle and seen in plain view.

Both Jones and the deputy were transported to a hospital.

Jones was arrested for his second offense DWI, vehicular negligent injuring, reckless operation, possession alcohol in vehicle, simple assault, possession of drug paraphernalia & expired driver’s license.
