EAST BATON ROUGE — A man has died in the hospital after he allegedly ambushed and shot his ex-girlfriend before shooting himself just over two weeks ago, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office reports.
It was around 3:20 a.m. on May 19th when deputies responded to a ‘suspicious incident’ at 9889 Hooper Rd., or at Tanglewood Apartments. Deputies say a woman told them that she believed her ex-boyfriend was using an old key to try to get into her apartment. They responded to the apartment, searched it but no one was inside. That’s when the woman and a friend said they would go stay the night somewhere else.
After deputies left, EBRSO says the ex-boyfriend “exited the wooded area and ambushed her leaving the apartment. He reportedly shot and killed her and then shot himself.”
The woman has been identified as 22-year-old Kayelyn Ford. She died on the scene.
The suspect, identified as Brandon Bell, 24, was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Officials said at the time “he is not expected to make it.” UWK has learned that he was later taken off of life support by his family.
EBRSO learned that Bell allegedly stole his grandparents’ Suburban from Ascension Parish before traveling to Baton Rouge to kill his ex-girlfriend.
