Elderly woman killed in St. Helena Parish crash

AMITE — Louisiana State Police is investigating a crash that killed an 80-year-old woman Thursday morning.

State police say shortly before 7:30 a.m., troopers began investigating a crash that involved two vehicles on LA 16 at McDaniel Road in St. Helena Parish. Amite resident Frances Johnson died in the crash.

State police say Johnson was stopped at a stop sign in her vehicle on McDaniel Road at the LA 16 intersection. At the same time, a Peterbilt was traveling westbound on LA 16. For reasons still under investigation, Johnson traveled into the Peterbilt’s path and was hit on the driver’s side.

Johnson was unrestrained and sustained severe injuries. She was transported to a local hospital, where she died. The Peterbilt driver was restrained and was not injured. As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
