Escaped MS inmate, who evaded police in Baton Rouge & Pointe Coupee, arrested in TX

POINTE COUPEE — The U.S. Marshal’s Task Force just arrested the MS escaped inmate, who evaded multiple law enforcement agencies Saturday night in and around Baton Rouge.

Ryan Young, 28, was picked up in Port Arthur, Texas. Those who assisted with his arrest include the Louisiana State Police Fugitive Task Force, U.S. Marshal’s Task Force and the MS Dept. of Corrections. He will be charged as a fugitive in Texas and then returned to Mississippi to face charges there. Louisiana will most likely also look at charges while he was in Baton Rouge & Pointe Coupee Parish Saturday, Dec. 2.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections reported that Young escaped from Lauderdale County on Wednesday, Nov. 29. Officials say he was being returned to the Walnut Grove Correctional Facility from Meridian, MS, where he was taken to court, when he escaped.

Young was accused of stealing a vehicle from Mississippi after he escaped. That stolen vehicle was spotted at a Murphy’s gas station in Baton Rouge around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2nd. That’s when law enforcement got behind him.

Officials say Young then crashed into a guardrail on Hwy. 190 in Lottie in Pointe Coupee Parish by River Station Rd. He bailed out of the vehicle and escaped on foot.

West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Office, Livonia Police, Baton Rouge Police and the Angola Chase Team all searched for him but to no avail.

The MS escaped inmate was serving a 40-year sentence for vehicle and residential burglaries, grand larceny, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, all committed in Claiborne County.
