“It’s not a question of if, but when” | Pastor’s son updates on his father, Rev. Jimmy Swaggart

Update: Sunday morning, June 29, 2025

BATON ROUGE — The family of Reverend Jimmy Swaggart has shared a deeply emotional update on the beloved evangelist’s condition, stating that his passing is imminent. At 90 years old, Rev. Swaggart remains hospitalized following cardiac arrest on Father’s Day and has shown no signs of improvement.

“Speaking very straightforward, it’s not really a question of if, but when,” a family spokesperson said in a message to supporters. “And so we as a family have gathered, and if it’s what the Lord desires, we want Dad’s last days to be comfortable. We want him to be surrounded by his family.”

Reverend Swaggart—whose preaching, gospel music, and decades-long television ministry reached millions around the world—is being lovingly cared for by close relatives and medical staff. His wife of more than 70 years, Frances Swaggart, has been by his side every moment.

“We want you to continue to lift up Mother in prayer,” the family added. “You can imagine how difficult this time is. She only leaves the hospital to go home and clean up a little, maybe get a quick bite to eat, and then she’s right back at his side.”

The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and support from around the globe, drawing strength from their shared faith and the powerful life of service that Reverend Swaggart lived.

“It’s sad, but at the same time, everyone’s race is going to be finished one day,” his son said. “But when you know where the finish line is—and who’s waiting there to say, ‘Well done, thou good and faithful servant’—there’s peace. And I know I’m his son, but I say this without hesitation: there has been no greater example of a good and faithful servant than my father.”

The family also recalled touching moments that reflected Rev. Swaggart’s lifelong devotion to preaching. “Mother said he literally woke her up in the middle of the night, and he was preaching. She just laid there listening. That’s who he is—a preacher of the gospel, through and through.”

The Swaggarts continue to ask for prayers as they remain at Rev. Swaggart’s side and prepare to say goodbye. More updates will be shared through official ministry channels in the coming days.

BATON ROUGE — As Reverend Jimmy Swaggart enters his second week in critical condition following a cardiac arrest on Father’s Day, his family reports that there has been no change in his status—neither improvement nor decline.

“I wish there were an update to give you. There’s still been no change: positive or negative,” said Donnie Swaggart, his son, during Sunday morning’s service at Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge.

The 90-year-old evangelist and founder of Jimmy Swaggart Ministries remains in the intensive care unit at a local hospital. His family continues to stand in faith, asking for prayers and trusting in God’s perfect will.

“We refuse to give up hope,” Donnie added. “We trust God no matter what.”

Supporters from around the world have joined in prayer, flooding social media and church networks with messages of encouragement and remembrance for a man whose preaching, music, and message of the Cross have touched millions over the past seven decades.

Additional updates will be shared by the ministry as they become available. In the meantime, the Swaggart family continues to ask for prayers—especially for Sister Frances Swaggart, who has remained faithfully at her husband’s side.

BATON ROUGE — Reverend Jimmy Swaggart’s condition remains unchanged as the 90-year-old evangelist continues to battle for his life in a Baton Rouge hospital, surrounded by family, loved ones, and a global community of believers who are praying fervently for a miracle.

Swaggart, a longtime minister and founder of Jimmy Swaggart Ministries and the SonLife Broadcasting Network, suffered a cardiac arrest early Sunday morning. Though EMTs were able to restore his heartbeat, he remains unresponsive and in critical care.

During a live service Tuesday evening, his son, Pastor Donnie Swaggart, offered a heartfelt update on his father’s condition.

“I wish tonight I could stand here and tell you there has been a dramatic change—but I can’t. We are still in a ‘But God’ mode,” Donnie said.

With visible emotion and unwavering faith, Donnie shared that the family is remaining in a spiritual “holding pattern,” clinging to God’s promises even amid silence from the medical team.

“We do not argue with God. As the Psalmist says, the ways of God are perfect,” he said. “God’s ways are not our ways. Right now, He is in that hospital room with my Dad. The One who put the sun, the moon, and the stars in their place is with us now.”

Rev. Swaggart’s ministry, which spans nearly seven decades, has impacted millions through preaching, gospel music, television, and Bible distribution. Known for his passionate sermons and unwavering message of the Cross, Swaggart has been a spiritual father to generations.

The family is asking for continued prayers—especially for Frances Swaggart, Jimmy’s wife of over 70 years—who has remained by her husband’s side without pause.

Pastor son updates on his father, Rev. Jimmy Swaggart | ‘There’s been no change’

BATON ROUGE — The condition of world-renowned evangelist Rev. Jimmy Swaggart remains unchanged following a cardiac arrest on Father’s Day. He is still in the Intensive Care Unit, surrounded by family, faith, and fervent prayer. His son, Pastor Donnie Swaggart, gave an update Tuesday morning on their television network, SonLife Broadcast Network.

Rev. Swaggart, 90, went into cardiac arrest early Sunday morning. His grandson, Pastor Gabriel Swaggart, and Donnie Swaggart were among the first on the scene and administered CPR until emergency responders arrived. Though EMTs were able to revive a heartbeat, Rev. Swaggart has not regained consciousness.

Meeting with his father’s longtime physician, Donnie Swaggart shared that the family is holding onto faith in the face of devastating medical news. “The bottom line, as we sit here right now, is that without a miracle, that’s the only thing that we can hope for.”

Despite the uncertainty, the Swaggart family remains steadfast in their faith.

“We don’t question the Lord,” Donnie said. “His ways are perfect. Every one of us is granted a period of time on this earth in the providence of God’s will, and it is up to us to make the most of the time the Lord gives us. I think Dad went far beyond making the most of his time.”

The family has remained at Rev. Swaggart’s side around the clock. Donnie offered a special plea for prayers on behalf of his mother, Frances Swaggart, who he described as “the rock and the strength of our family and of this ministry.”

“She is a woman of faith,” Donnie said. “For two days, we’ve only been able to get her to leave his room to go home, shower, maybe eat a little, and then come back. You can imagine the physical, mental, and emotional toll this is having on her.”

The Swaggarts ask the global community of believers and friends to continue lifting up their patriarch in prayer. “If there’s any updates, we will let you know, either by social media or I’ll come back on the air,” Donnie said. “We love you.”

Rev. Swaggart has served in ministry for over 70 years, touching lives across every continent with a message centered on the Cross of Christ. The world now prays in unity for the man who has long pointed millions to the power of healing and hope in Jesus.

In a prayer service Sunday evening, Rev. Swaggart’s son, Pastor Donnie Swaggart, shared what unfolded earlier in the day:

“A little after eight, Gabe and I rushed to mother’s house. His dad had gone into cardiac arrest. He never regained consciousness. We both took turns giving him chest compressions until EMT could get there. I’ve never seen so many people arrive at one time, and I want to thank them. They were able to get a heartbeat back. Right now he is in ICU and without a miracle, his time will be short. But we believe God—we’re not giving up.”
