Fallen Heroes | Processions set for BRPD officers killed in helicopter crash

BATON ROUGE — The Baton Rouge Police Department will honor the lives of two Baton Rouge police officers who died in a helicopter crash Sunday.

Cpl. Scotty Canezaro and Sgt. David Poirrier will be honored with an escort from the West Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office to BRPD headquarters.

The escort will travel across the Huey P. Long Bridge, or the Old Mississippi River Bridge, then south on Airline Hwy. before arriving at BRPD headquarters at 9000 Airline Hwy.

The public can attend and honor the fallen heroes near the Police Memorial. They are scheduled to leave the coroner’s office at 10:30 a.m. and arrive at BRPD HQ between 10:45-11 a.m.

From BRPD: All those who are attending the processional, please utilize available parking. Do not park near the Police Memorial or along the drive on either side.

Shortly after arriving at BRPD HQ, Cpl. Canezaro and Sgt. Poirrier’s bodies will be escorted to separate funeral homes. Sgt. Poirrier will go to Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs while Cpl. Canezaro will go to Rabenhorst. That escort will travel down I-12 to South Range Ave. before proceeding to Seale Funeral Home.

That escort is expected to arrive between 11 a.m. and Noon Wednesday. Denham Springs Police Dept. says to expect temporary road closures.

Anyone who wishes to pay their respects can line Range Ave. between I-12 and Seale Funeral Home.
