WASHINGTON, D.C. — Thousands of police officers and friends and family members of fallen police officers are in Washington, D.C. right now for National Police Week. This year, five Louisiana law enforcement officers’ names are being added to the memorial wall, including three local officers: Baton Rouge Police Sergeant Caleb Eisworth, Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Charles Riley, and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Sergeant Grant Candies.
BRPD worked to raise money throughout the year to send as many officers to Washington to honor Sgt. Eisworth as possible. UWK is told 43 people from Baton Rouge went to D.C. including Eisworth’s family, and 22 officers and Honor Guard.
BRPD Chief TJ Morse is there, too. “I’m honored to accompany the Eisworth family to D.C. as we honor the legacy of Sgt. Eisworth this week,” Chief Morse said. When BRPD officers arrived in Washington on Monday, they were greeted by dozens of officers standing in salute.
Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi told UWK about ten deputies, Deputy Riley’s family, and himself will be in Washington this week to honor Riley. “Today, we gather with heavy hearts to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others,” Sheriff Stassi said. “Among them, my deputy, Charles Riley of the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office, who gave his life in the line of duty on October 6, 2025.”
Right now, St. Tammany Lieutenant Ryan Suhre is taking part in a 300-mile bike ride, from Somerset, NJ to Washington, D.C., to be there for National Police Week. He and hundreds of officers from across the country left New Jersey on Monday, and are expected to arrive Wednesday, May 13. Renee Cazaubon and retired Deputy Jeff Mayo are serving as Lt. Shure’s support staff.
Other members of the law enforcement family from surrounding parishes are also in Washington to support Louisiana’s fallen officers.
On Wednesday, May 13, all of the officers’ names will be read during a candlelight vigil. Their names are already on the memorial wall. You can take a virtual tour of the wall here.
