BATON ROUGE — Funeral arrangements for Martha Odom, the 17-year-old high school senior from the Lafayette area who was killed in the Mall of Louisiana shooting, have been set.
According to her obituary, visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Martin & Castle Funeral Home Southside in Lafayette. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 9 at 10 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Lafayette, and a private burial at the Lafayette Protestant Cemetery will follow.
Odom’s family has also established a community fund in her name. In lieu of flowers, they ask that donations be made to the Martha Odom Legacy of Joyful Grace in Motion.
According to the fund’s description, “this fund honors Martha’s life by supporting causes that reflect her compassion, values, and spirit. The Odom family will thoughtfully advise on grantmaking to benefit qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, churches, and schools in Acadiana and beyond.”
Contributions can be made online or by check.
Martha Odom was a a senior at Ascension Episcopal School in the Lafayette area. She was with friends visiting the Mall of Louisiana on her “senior skip day” when the shooting occurred. The coroner’s office reported Odom’s autopsy showed she was shot to the chest as the cause of death.
