Ascension Parish deputies are investigating a shooting on I-10 westbound near the 170 mile post Prairieville exit that happened late Thursday night.
Officials say deputies found a truck with bullet holes blocking all three lanes around 11:30pm. The passenger in the truck, who is from Zachary, died on the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. The driver, who is from Baton Rouge, was taken to a hospital and is listed in stable condition.
Identities of the victims are being withheld at this time.
“I want to emphasize that this type of violent crime on our highways is unusual. Our detectives will follow leads wherever they go in order to solve this case,” said Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre.
Sheriff Webre added they believe this shooting may have been the result of something that started outside of Ascension Parish and ended in Ascension.
