The countdown is on to Christmas Day!

The website Only in Your State created a list of the Top 7 Christmas towns in Louisiana for people to immerse themselves into the Christmas in Louisiana experience fully.

#1 Natchitoches

The place is hosting its 97th Annual Natchitoches Christmas Festival this year. It began Nov. 18 and will continue through Jan. 6. Starting as a one-day festival, the Natchitoches Christmas Festival has evolved into a six-week-long Christmas season.

#2 New Orleans

The Crescent City fully embraces the holiday spirit, and you’ll find plenty of things to do for Christmas in New Orleans. One of the most popular holiday events is over at City Park. Celebration in the Oaks is a time-honored tradition for many locals. Be sure to swing by the Roosevelt Hotel and stroll through the lobby. Since 1930, the Roosevelt has been turning its lobby into a winter wonderland. Over 100,000 lights, nearly 1,700 feet of garland, and thousands of glass ornaments adorn the 78 birch trees and 40 Christmas trees for a sight that will fill you with holiday cheer.

#3 Acadian Village (Lafayette)

The Noel Acadian Au Village offers a lot of amazing lights and more. The village is open from Dec. 1-23, 5:30 p.m.-9 p.m. every night, weather permitting. The village boasts half a million lights, live entertainment, carnival rides, and photos with Santa.


#4 Monroe/W. Monroe

The Christmas on the River celebration in Monroe-West Monroe, set for Dec. 2 has parades, fireworks, dancing lights, live entertainment, and more.

 Stroll through the Freedom Trees at the Chennault Aviation & Military Museum, enjoy a champagne stroll along West Monroe’s Antiques Alley, or take the whole family to Kiroli Park for Christmas at Kiroli. Beyond the city limits, Candy Cane Lane is an excellent drive-thru holiday light show in Louisiana with over a mile of dazzling displays.


#5 Shreveport

The Christmas in Roseland display in the American Rose Center shouldn’t be missed in Shreveport.

The American Rose Center is transformed into a whimsical winter wonderland from the day after Thanksgiving until the weekend before Christmas.

  • Featuring thousands of twinkling lights, dozens of lighted displays, giant Christmas Cards to the Community, nightly entertainment, photos with Santa, and fun for the whole family.
  • Christmas in Roseland is a participant in the Holiday Trail of Lights tour.

#6 Lake Charles

Holiday events in Lake Charles begin the day after Thanksgiving and carry on until the new year. There will be plenty of Christmas light displays, including those at Millennium Park and The Grove at Heritage Square.


#7 Baton Rouge

Christmas in Baton Rouge is always a good idea. The holiday season kicks off with the Festival of Lights and the lighting of the tree in the Town Square. Ice skating at the Raising Cane’s River Center is a way to spend an evening with loved ones in between checking out all of the light displays you’ll find in the area. Zoolights is returning to the Baton Rouge Zoo and it runs from Nov. 24 until Dec. 30.


Honorable Mention: Alexandria/Pineville

This is another place jam-packed with holiday events. The award-winning free holiday festival AlexWinterFête returns to Alexandria Nov. 30 through Dec 2. Some of the activities include: an outdoor ice skating rink, Santa’s village, live music, and fireworks display.

 It all begins with the traditional lighting of the tree during holiday Magic and Santa’s arrival at Santa’s Village at the Alexander Fulton Mini Park downtown on Thursday, November 30 at 4 p.m.
