One arrested after shooting in Ponchatoula bar

There was a shooting early Sunday morning at the Ole Skool Bar in Ponchatoula.

The Ponchatoula Police Department arrested Joshua Taylor for attempted murder after he allegedly shot Bryan Coxe twice in the shoulder.

The Ponchatoula Police Chief initially said there was a fight between the two after someone Taylor knew tripped on a motorbike outside of the bar. However, after several witnesses came forward, the chief said it appears Taylor had been arguing with several others in the bar prior to going to get a gun out of his vehicle.

Coxe happened to see what was happening and in order to protect the patrons in the bar, tried to take matters into his own hands. That’s when Coxe was shot twice in his shoulder.

When the Ponchatoula Police Department arrived on the scene, customers had detained Taylor and were providing first aid for Coxe.

The officers arrested Taylor and ordered Ole Skool Bar to close at 12:30am, but at 2:45am the officers had to return because the manager, Tonya Morris, allegedly punched a male customer in the face.

She has received a summons for simple battery and for remaining open after legal hours.

Taylor was treated for minor injuries before being taken to the Tangipahoa Parish Jail.

Both men are from Springfield, but it appears that the two did not know each other prior to the incident.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information on the shooting can call the Ponchatoula Police Department at (985) 386-6548 or submit an anonymous tip on Tangipahoa Parish Crime Stoppers at https://www.p3tips.com/tipform.aspx?ID=373.
