Firefighters responding to woods on fire in Addis

ADDIS —- A section of the woods on a hunting lease in Addis is currently on fire with firefighters trying to get it under control. Four different fire departments are on the scene.

The fire is on Ed LeJuene St. in Addis in West Baton Rouge Parish. That is off of Hwy. 1 near Peter Messina Rd. & Old State Hwy. 1. It started late afternoon on Sunday, Aug. 27th.

The latest update is that firefighters continue putting water on the fire and do have it somewhat contained as of 9:45pm. Officials said they are making “major progress.”

A bulldozer is helping with operations.

At this time, no evacuations have been issued and no homes appear to be anywhere near where the fire started.

Officials tell UWK the fire is well off the roadway into the woods on a private hunting lease. Officials added the fire is up to about five acres at this time.

Firefighters are working to get it under control as soon as possible.

Residents are asked not to come near the scene and to please stay at home. The more cars and people fires responders need to get around delays how quickly they can get to the scene and start working.

Details are limited at this time as firefighters are on the scene. As soon as more details are provided, the article will be updated.
